Theodore (Duke) Nario Fancher, Jr. passed away quietly at his home in Theodore, Alabama early Friday morning, April 17, 2020. Duke was the loving husband of Mary J. Fancher, father of Deidre (Mooshay) Lacey, and step-father of Harim Paul Lucas. Duke was born October 1, 1949 to the late Theodore Nario Fancher and Alice Kidd (Cobb).
Duke grew up in Mobile, Alabama where he was raised in a Christian home. He gave his heart to Christ at an early age. During his early years, Duke attended Allenville Baptist Church in Prichard, Alabama. Later in life he Joined Nazaree Full Church and attended there until recently when he became ill. He matriculated through Mobile County Public Schools and graduated from Blount High School, Class of 1967. Duke worked at various medical facilities in Mobile as a maintenance and custodial worker for most of his working years. He was a diligent worker and much appreciated by co-workers and residents.
Duke cherished his family. He met his wife, Mary, thirty-two years ago, and it was love at first sight for both of them. They have been inseparable ever since. He also adored his daughter Mooshay and grandson Waylon. Duke had hoped to witness Waylon grow into manhood. Duke was very sociable and enjoyed hanging out with the guys. When he wasn’t hanging out with the guys, Duke enjoyed watching sports, gospel shows, and westerns on T.V.
In addition to his parents, Duke was preceded in death by his youngest brother, Gregory Cobb.
Along-side his beloved wife, daughter, and step-son, left to cherish Duke’s memory are three brothers: Danny (Christine) Cobb, Melvin (Rhonda) Cobb and Charles (Tracy) Cobb; three sisters: Brenda Fancher, Linda Phillips, and Claudia Cobb, one grandson, Waylon Ware, one aunt, Ruth James, two step-granddaughters, Gabriel Pettaway and Heidi Cooper, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives too numerous to name. Also cherishing his memory are two sisters-in-law, Cherry Briggs and Barbara (John) Davis along with numerous friends. The family is especially thankful to devoted friends Bobby Hicks, Leroy Quinny and Diane Thomas.
A public viewing will be held on Friday, April 24, 2020 from 1pm to 2pm at Gulf Coast Cremation and Funerals (by Small’s) located at 7000 Bellingrath Road, Mobile, AL and continue on Saturday, April 25, 2020 from 12pm until the 1pm "Homegoing Celebration" in Gulf Coast Cremation and Funerals “Chapel Of Remembrance”, Theodore, AL. Interment will follow in Whispering Pines Cemetery, Eight Mile, Alabama.
