Obituary for Ronald Williams

Ronald Terry Williams, affectionately known as “Chop”, the son of Polly and Richard Williams was born on January 24, 1956, in Irvington, Alabama. Growing up in the South, Ron attended elementary, middle, and high school with siblings, family members, and friends. He enjoyed family gatherings, playing sports and everything outdoors. After attending Faulkner State College for two years, Ron transferred and made the move to California where he studied agricultural biology at Cal Poly University in Pomona. While a student, he was befriended by Clarence Harrison and lived with him and his family while working and completing his degree. He met Linda Callender, also a student, and the two became inseparable. Only July 12, 1980, they married at St. Stephens Baptist Church in La Puente, California.

In June of 1989, the two were blessed with their first-born daughter, Veronicah Lindsey Williams. She was daddy’s girl the moment she entered the world, and the room lit up with the two of them around. Two years later, the family was blessed a second time and welcomed a son, Brandon Marcus Williams and there was double the joy of his children. He remained a hardworking and dedicated family man. He often served as a coach for his children’s team sports and one of his greatest joys was his dedication to the Indian guides, a program for his children to connect and experience outdoor camping and hiking activities. Ron supported sports year-round with his children and enjoyed taking the family to support professional baseball games the Angels and Dodgers played.

Ron did not like spending much time in the kitchen unless it was to eat a meal, but he was certainly known for his expertise in preparing smoked turkey on the grill. Everyone that had a chance to taste it remembers the mouth-watering flavor it had. Ron also introduced his family to boating at an early age. He enjoyed taking his boat out to Lake Perris and having his kids practice steering it. Although Ron did not have much patience for doing homework, he did have patience and the nerve necessary to teach his children how to drive a car. In fact, he also helped his nieces, nephews and other learn as well to drive his most prized possession, his red truck.

While Ron loved all his siblings and family members his brother, Barry Keith Williams was his best friend. The two were inseparable and had great love, respect, and admiration for one another. Ron often spoke of and spent time with Barry throughout their entire lives. Barry and Ron often enjoyed a few games of golf and laughed and joked about who had the better swing. Even when Ron became ill and could no longer play, Barry was there to cut his hair, give him a trim and generally, just lift his spirits.

Over the years, his dedicated son, Brandon was his rock. Brandon physically cared for his dad doing everything he could to provide comfort and conversation any time of day or night without hesitation. He took him to appointments and never left his side. His daughter Veronicah enjoyed her daddy-daughter dates and daily conversations where he always spoke to let her know how proud of her, he was. She provided him with comfort and prayer and her expert advice as a nurse. Ron retired 11 years ago from the City of Riverside, Code Compliance Department, and 6 years ago from UCR where he enjoyed a productive career to support his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters. He leaves behind his children, Veronicah and Brandon, and their mother Linda to mourn his passing. He also leaves behind his brother Barry and his wife, Patricia Williams, three sisters: Carolyn “Bunny” Ezell, Bernardine Williams, Patricia Clinton, and brothers Gerald Williams, Edward Williams, and Hilliard Williams. He leaves behind Vanessa Willis of Texas who was his constant companion and a support system. He is mourned and will be missed by a host of numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.

No more suffering, no more pain. He fought a good fight and now he is at peace wearing his angel wings. Heaven needed another angel to laugh out loud and Ron was chosen. This is not good-bye but see you later.
