Obituary for Mary Boyd

Maryann “Mary” “Pokey” Meeks Boyd, age 70, passed away unexpectedly on August 30, 2022.

She was born in El Paso, Texas to Johnnie Meeks, U.S. Air Force Staff Sargeant, and her loving mother, Eva Tovar Meeks.

During her childhood years, Maryann lived in Texas, Georgia, and California. She later moved to Mobile, where she attended Murphy High School, and graduated in 1970. She then pursued a career in nursing, graduating from Bishop State Community College as an LPN.

Maryann moved to Dana, Kentucky, where she married the love of her life, Douglas Boyd. They had two children.

Maryann later moved back to Mobile, where she cared for the elderly for many years in assisted living facilities. She also continued her education at the University of South Alabama, where she was on the dean’s list.

Maryann was a woman of faith in Jesus Christ. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. Her love for others, and joy of living will be missed by many.

Maryann was preceded in death by her daughter, Eva Marie Boyd, her former husband, and her parents.

Maryann’s life will forever be remembered and cherished by her loving son, Lee (Allison) Boyd; granddaughters, Taylor Kelly and Andrea Boyd; great-granddaughter, Millie; brother and best friend, Robert (Jill) Meeks; brothers, Richard (Karen) Meeks, Jay (Lisa) Meeks, and Johnnie Meeks; sisters, Jaana Meeks, and Martha (Erling) Brabaek, and many nieces and nephews, extended family members, and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the fall to honor Maryann. The time and place will be announced at a later date.
