Obituary for Almeda Davis (Gardner)

Almeda “Mona” Gardner Davis was a native of Mobile, AL and a resident of Theodore, AL, was born August 2, 1949 to the parents of James and Almeda Gardner.

After 2 ½ years battle with Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer, on July 29, 2021, Mona departed to Eternal Glory.

Mona gave her life to Christ at an early age at St Peter Claiborne Catholic Church.

Mona was a loving person and was loved by many for her selfless acts of kindness. She loved crossword puzzles, shopping, and soap operas. After losing her sight in 2016, her new passion was listening to audible books. Mostly she loved to debate to which Mona “was always right”.

She was the beloved wife of Robert Davis, Sr., 51 years of marriage, together for 54 years. They loved travelling together to visit their kids.

She was preceded in life by her parents: James and Almeda Gardner; her in laws: Ruben and Lillie B. Smith; her sister: Serita Hawthorne and Gail Johnson; her brothers: Harry and Mike Gardner.

She is survived by her husband: Robert Davis, Sr.; six children: Kimberly (Alsie Harris) Davis, Robin (Joseph) Davis-Carraway, Terry (Damion) Davis-Campbell, Stacy (Olaun Simmons) Davis, Brandy Davis, Robert (Janisha Westry) Davis, Jr; 16 grandchildren: Jeremy and Dennis Davis, Dana Burroughs, Clarke and Jordan Carraway, Cree Campbell, Olaun, Brock and Harper Davis-Simmons, Kai and David-Robert Graddy, Korry James, Aubree, Ashten, Ahria and Ava Davis; two great grandchildren: Carter Williams and Collin Burroughs.
She is also survived by her siblings: James (Rosalyn) Gardner, Linda (Charles) Johnson, Kirk (Gwen) Gardner, Christopher (Robyn) Gardner, Jimmy (Eartha) Gardner, Tyrone Gardner, Debbie Gardner and Anthony (Mekia) Gardner. She also has a host of nephews, nieces, sisters and brothers-in-law, cousins and friends. A devoted niece, Jacqueline Esters and a loving, compassionate and devoted friend, Sylvia; a host of other relatives and friends.

The Homegoing “Celebration Of Life” Service will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2021.

Her remains will lie in state on Friday, August 6, 2021, from 10am until 4pm in the “Chapel Of Remembrance” at Gulf Coast Cremation and Funerals by Small’s, located at 7000 Bellingrath Road, Theodore, AL.

A visitation will be held Saturday, August 7, 2021, from 9am until the 11am Homegoing “Celebration Of Life” Service at First United Methodist Church, 5451 Washington Blvd., Theodore, Alabama.

Interment will take place in Lawn Haven Cemetery, Theodore, Alabama.
